Duties:

A Speed Control Systems Technician is an experienced lead technician performing technical work involving the assembly, installation, integration, optimization, basic repair, relocation and maintenance related to digital and analog speed control equipment, mobile as well as stationary in accordance with FCC and manufacture specifications. Employees in this classification lead the work of at least one lower-level systems technician and provide guidance and training to System Technicians I & II concerning speed control devices. Employees in this classification receive close supervision from a higher level Communication Technician Supervisor and/or Specialist. Employees in this classification may be subject to 24 hour on-call duty and are considered essential employees and may be required to work rotating shifts, to include weekends, evenings and nights. The Speed Control Systems Technician assigns, reviews and certifies the work of and trains lower-level technicians that perform radar system certifications.

Education:

Minimum of a high school diploma.

General Experience:

· Five (5) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of digital and analog electronic communication equipment.

· A general knowledge of two-way radio (digital and analog) electronic theory along with a familiarity with the FCC, federal and state laws, rules and regulations pertaining to radio and microwave.

· Knowledge of installation practices relating to mobile radio, mobile data computers, radar/Lidar and mobile video systems. Ability to adjust frequency modulation or amplitude modulated radio transmitters and receivers to proper modulation deviations or modulation levels and operating frequency in accordance with FCC regulations.

· Ability to operate test equipment, specialized test equipment, includes but not limited to: communication service monitor, frequency meters, RF field strength meter, time domain reflectometer, frequency domain reflectometer, digital multimeter, modulation meters, ammeter, digital oscilloscope, analog oscilloscope, antenna analyzer, watt meter, spectrum analyzer and distortion analyzer.

· FCC Radio General License preferred but not required.

Specialized Experience:

Personnel in this labor category are considered experts in the field with maintenance/troubleshooting of speed control devices (Radar & Lidar). Must have the capability to give court testimony when required to concern maintenance procedures with agency equipment.
